Dessie is the most famous, most
beloved grey in British steeplechasing. He was a horse for the big
occasion, who loved the cheers and lived for winning. His most
famous win came over the three miles of the Cheltenham Gold Cup,
when almost 60,000 saw him overcome the sucking mud and the
left-handed course he hated to claim victory.
Handsome and talented, his victories came despite often punishing
handicaps, but Dessie's courage never wavered - and that's what made
him special.
